Summertime at Clark's Inn & Restaurant in Santee

Summer in Santee South Carolina means gorgeous blue skies, and flaming red crepe myrtles and knock-out roses at the front of Clark's Restaurant. We think our color scheme is perfect with the red, white and blue of the American flag that also graces the front. And the smell of the Confederate jasmine blooming everywhere is just wonderful.

Lately, We've been welcoming lots of returning former guest/ friends, and meeting new folks who come off the Interstate. We'd like to pass along a couple of recent comment from guests. Room 120 from Florida wrote, "Now we are sold! Love the rooms at a fair price. The food is #1, with great service. K. was great as our waitress for dinner, very good and professional." They gave us especially high marks for cleanliness. Room 149 said our staff treated them with respect, all were friendly and professional, and they rated us Excellent on everything. Lake Marion & Santee Area Gardens Delight

We have hosted several Lake Marion group events lately, notably some Santee family reunions and weddings. When attendees aren't engaging in Santee golf or fishing, they might take in the wonderful area gardens and natural areas. This photo was taken at Edisto Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg, just 30 minutes from Clark's, our lovely Lake Marion inn. One of only 23 test gardens for All-American Rose Selections, Inc., the gardens are lovely and fragrant from mid April till the first killing frost in November. Edisto Memorial Garden includes a wetland park with a boardwalk that wanders along the lovely Edisto river. This garden is only one of many in our area open to the public year round with no admission. Clark's Santee inn is convenient to all the wonders, both natural and man-made that abound along the Santee Lakes, including some of the finest South Carolina gardens. Come and see for yourself.

We Enjoyed Having the Perrys from Toronto Visit Clark's!

We truly enjoyed meeting the Perrys, Bob and Catherine, winners of the Vacation Giveaway at the Toronto Golf Show. They arrived on Wednesday the 21st and left Monday morning the 26th, headed to Charleston and then Myrtle Beach. Catherine was our prize winner--3 rounds of golf with carts for a couple, lodging with breakfast for 4 days, a therapeutic massage, golf lesson with a pro (Dana Perry, Pro at Santee Cooper CC, about whom the Perrys could not say enough great things), and dinner at Clark's Restaurant. Bob and Catherine especially enjoyed playing Santee National Golf Course, ate dinner at Clark's several times and went to Lone Star Barbeque for dinner and bluegrass one night. Catherine said she had never gotten a taste for grits till she tried shrimp and grits, which she loved! We found them to be delightful folks and hope they will visit us again. Spring is Festival Time in the Lake Marion region.

While many of the visitors we have right now are golfers, we are also seeing folks who come to Clark's Inn and Restaurant to enjoy all the Santee Lakes area events going on all around us. On the 17th of April, the Purple Martin Festival begins in St. Matthews, with a parade, fun, and food. Our own Santee Birding and Nature Festival features guided walks and tours of several nearby refuges and parks, wildlfe photography classes, canoe and kayak trips, and much more. People travel here from all over the US to attend this festival in hopes of seeing painted buntings, the stars of the show. Find out about the Festival by going to the Fish and Wildlife Service website, and then search for Santee Wildlife Refuge. Then click on the icon with the bunting as shown here, and go to the information about the Santee Festival. The Striped Bass Festival in Manning, which celebrates Lake Marion's prized fish, begins on April 17th and goes through the 25th. April 30th through May 2nd, you can attend the African American Cultural Festival in Rembert, or the Orangeburg Festival of Roses at Edisto Memorial Gardens. Google each town's website to find festival information. All of our Lake Marion area festivals feature food, crafts, and entertainment.

Golf is in FULL SWING at Clarks’ Inn and Restaurant. April is one of the most wonderful times to play golf here, and we are seeing golfers from all over coming to play some fantastic, affordable Lake Marion golf. The weather has been exceptional, warm days with cool breezes and lots of sun. Clarks’ Restaurant has been loaded with golfers. They rave about the reasonable golf rates here in Santee, and they love the fine food at our Lake Marion inn!

In early March, we went to the Toronto Golf Show and as part of our promotion, held a drawing for a Golf Vacation Getaway for a couple. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our winners, the Perrys from Toronto, in mid April. They will stay with us at Clarks’ Inn, play golf for 3 days, enjoy a therapeutic massage, have a golf lesson with a pro, and cap it off with a sumptuous dinner for 2 at Clark’s Restaurant.
