Lakes Marion and Moultrie are referred to as the Santee Cooper Lakes because of the two river systems that the project connected. This lake system consists of 110,600 acres (Marion) and 60,400 acres (Moultrie) joined by a 6.5 mile diversion canal. These world-class fishing lakes were created in 1939 to 1942 by the South Carolina Public Service Authority (commonly known as 'Santee Cooper') for a hydroelectric project. At the present time, these lakes hold the world record Channel Catfish (58 lbs), Stripped Bass until 1993 (55 lbs), and Arkansas Blue until 1996 (109.4 lbs). Other State records currently held include: Largemouth Bass (16.2 lbs); Black Crappie (5 lbs); Chain (Jack) (6.4 lbs); Shellcracker (5.7 lbs); Warmouth (2.25 lbs); Channel Catfish (58 lbs); and Flathead (77.3 lbs).

Rates per day includes accommodations, a Coast Guard licensed fishing guide, and lunch. Bring your own drinks. Beer is allowed, but not liquor. A South Carolina fishing license is required.
